There has been another important update about Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Venezuela.
On March 31, 2025, a federal court ordered the government to pause its plan to end TPS for Venezuela under the 2023 designation. Because of this, USCIS is now following the guidance published in the Federal Register on January 17, 2025.
✅ WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
TPS for Venezuela under the 2023 designation is extended.
The current extension is valid from April 3, 2025, through October 2, 2026.
⚠️ This extension could end early if the court allows the government to terminate TPS in the future.
The re-registration period for existing beneficiaries runs from January 17, 2025, through September 10, 2025.
Certain work permits (EADs) are automatically extended through April 2, 2026 if they:
Have category A12 or C19, and
Show an expiration date of:
September 10, 2025
April 2, 2025
March 10, 2024
September 9, 2022

If you have a pending or approved TPS application, you may qualify for:
A REAL ID driver’s license or state ID card
Federal, state, or local public benefits
To prove you have TPS, you can provide:
A TPS work permit (EAD) with category A12 or C19,or
A Form I-797, Notice of Action for a current Form I-821 (TPS application)
Agencies that grant public benefits can usually verify your status, but they may ask for additional documents.
As of today, DHS is continuing to monitor the court case and has stated that any future updates will be posted on the USCIS TPS Venezuela page.
